Train SUP correctly
Kona Ocean Hybrid's exceptionally low hull and reactive construction means that, regardless of level, you can now handle all conditions with ease, including wind and waves. Together with a longer and optimally placed fenbox where you can easily adjust the included and hand-polished fiberglass fin, this is the hard SUP board for you who are looking for distinct function, stability and glide. Ocean Hybrid is thus an ideal board even for long paddle trips with packing. If you want a single board at a very reasonable price, this is our obvious recommendation.
Hull construction - Hybrid
The hybrid boards are built from an ultralight CNC-milled EPS core that is equipped with custom reinforcements to regulate the rigidity in all planes. The EPS core is then clad with hybrid fiber laminate which is then compression molded under pressure in a thermoform. This advanced technology is what gives a construction with low weight and which at the same time withstands all kinds of stress. The ratio between thermoset and fiber laminate is crucial for the quality and function of the final product and is carefully controlled throughout the process, all to achieve optimal rigidity in relation to weight. The affordable and durable hybrid construction is excellent for both fitness centers and for those who want to start training SUP on a hard board at a really affordable price.
Kona Ocean Hybrid 14.0
The perfect training and competition board for SUP that can be handled by anyone regardless of previous experience. The SUP board that makes you experience the allure and understand the benefits of training SUP. Kona Ocean Hybrid minimizes the entry into SUP training and glides extremely easily and quickly in all weathers and waters. This also makes it a very nice and suitable board even for longer touring paddles, so-called touring.
Functional design
Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid's both hydro- and aerodynamically tested shape means that the board can more easily stay the course in crosswinds and brake less in headwinds. The influence of the speed wind is thereby also reduced when the board is controlled in tailwinds. Ocean's unique hull construction means that we can now put all our energy into pushing the board in the right direction instead of having to put effort into fighting wind and waves. Now we instead get the opportunity to use these to our advantage. With its slender lining and profile, the Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid cuts straight through every wave without slowing down.
Designed for gliding
Due to its design and planing hull, Ocean Hybrid has the very best conditions to glide as easily and effortlessly as possible in all conditions. A large and balanced surface all the way from front to stern and strengthens Ocean's ability to maintain speed. This also makes the Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid less sensitive to weight changes in the longitudinal direction, which means that we can put more effort into driving and trimming the board without having to compensate for involuntary rolling.
Planing
The idea with this type of hull is that it should be high in the water in order to minimize water friction. As a result, we need to maintain a slightly higher frequency when paddling a board with a planing hull in relation to a SUP board with a displacement hull, such as our Kona Numinous.
Volume
Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid is designed with the smallest possible volume in relation to the weight of the paddler it must be able to carry, and the cruising speed that the board is intended to be able to paddle in. Our extensive field tests on the water have shown that a balanced volume distribution is crucial for how the board will work in different conditions and how the board reacts to different loads during paddling. For optimal volume distribution and to counteract pitching, the standing surface is therefore gradually raised to the rear towards the stern.
Fitted volume
With Kona Ocean's custom volume, the board has good stability even when steered from the stern, i.e. that there is sufficient buoyancy even when you are standing in the stern during, for example, a pivot turn or when you are surfing a wave. The increased volume in the stern also makes it easier for the board to come with the waves when, for example, downwind paddling.
Stability for performance
The extremely low standing surface is something that is unique to Kona and is the basis for our motto "Stability for Performance ™". Standing as close to the water surface as possible means that the joint center of gravity (JCOG) of the board and paddler is lowered. This means that the board receives increased support from the water and feels less nervous. The board does not "roll" as easily, i.e. wiggles from side to side. By being closer to the water, we also get a better control of the board and can therefore more easily trim and control it through weight transfer.
Size
Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid has been designed based on the size that we have seen fits most people. Ocean Hybrid is 14 feet long, i.e. 427 cm and is 24 inches wide, i.e. 61 cm. This size makes Ocean Hybrid the perfect entry point for hard SUP boards and SUP training. It can easily carry both adult person and a child or dog and thereby also packing for a multi-day paddle trip.
Surface layer
Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid has a superior durable and protective surface layer that is strong enough to withstand lighter blows. The construction has been encapsulated with four coats of the same type of paint used in the automotive industry that have been polished in the factory for the highest finish. This, together with Kona Ocean's unique design, is the basis for the board to be able to paddle daily for at least 9 years.
Deck
The tire on Ocean 14.0 Hybrid has been clad with a carpet in EVA of the highest quality with so-called diamond structure to provide optimal grip and to facilitate circulation in the feet during long paddles. The deck pad covers the entire standing surface all the way to the tail and is also immersed in the deck so that the board has as low a center of gravity as possible.
Drainage
For efficient drainage of the low standing surface, the Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid has been designed with two double drainage holes. These are immersed in the sides of the board with a negative aft angle to prevent water from flowing back into the board. The elevated standing surface in the stern also contributes to water flowing more easily off the board and that the water that has been flushed over the edges can flow down towards and out through the drainage holes.
Fin
Kona Ocean 14.0 Hybrid comes with a 7-inch (175 mm) hand-cut fiberglass fin of the highest class. The fact that it is just made of fiberglass has a number of advantages such as that it e.g. gets the right flex and weight in relation to the board. The fin's design is also optimized to provide course stability, maneuverability and minimal resistance in the water.
Maneuverability
The fend depth also offers a good balance between stability and maneuverability and works great for pivot turns even in shallow water. The fin also has a relatively long base (175 mm) in relation to the size of the board to provide the best possible course stability and acceleration. The fin angle of 51 ° means that it can easily be paddled through seagrass etc.
Finbox
The fin box on the Ocean 14.0 Hybrid is of the so-called US model with a total length of 10 inches (254 mm), which is considerably longer than the market standard. A longer finbox makes the board even more adaptable and allows the paddler to adjust the position of the fin completely according to prevailing water conditions and individual preferences. The finbox has also been placed significantly further forward towards the bow than market standards in order to provide increased opportunities to control the board's performance.
Leash and mounts
Kona Ocean has two leash attachments based on what suits you and the conditions. One is located in front of the standing surface, which is most often used for training and competition and touring paddling, as well as a bracket in the stern for paddling and surfing in breaking waves and rapids. The bow also has an action camera mount (FCS). In front of the standing surface, there are also four brackets that can be used to mount an elastic packing system so that you can bring various necessities while paddling.
Touring
With its low and durable hull, exceptional glide and stability as well as efficient drainage, Ocean 14.0 Hybrid together with the integrated packing system is a fantastic SUP board even for many and long touring paddles.
Race-surfing and DW
Due to Kona Ocean's unique design and ability to adjust the position of the fin, it is exceptionally easy to surf with this 14 foot long board. You catch waves early and turn distinctly with the help of both the rear edges of the board and the fin.
KONA OCEAN 14.0 HYBRID
This is the ideal SUP board for you who want to experience and understand SUP training with the right conditions and make you dare to take the step to your first exercise race. Ocean Hybrid is also for you who are looking for distinct stability and glide so that you can get the most out of your capacity.
